If you want to increase the chances that your blog posts will rank highly for certain search terms on search engines, you should consider using basic SEO strategies. We’re not talking about stuffing your blog posts with keywords and rendering them totally incomprehensible. We’re talking about using a few, carefully selected keywords in each of your blog posts to make your posts more search engine friendly. If you want to hop on the SEO bandwagon, here’s what you can do:
- Get on the Google AdWords Keyword Tool – Finding the right keywords is the most difficult part, and, fortunately, it’s not even that difficult. When you want to pick some relevant keywords to use in a blog post, type a general keyword that’s related to your blog post into the search field on the Google AdWords Keyword Tool. Change the match type to “exact,” instead of “broad,” and click “search.” After you’ve done this, a long list of keywords should come up that are related to your original search.
- Pick your keywords – Look at the list and pick out a handful of keywords that have a high local monthly search total (500 or more is best). Out of the keywords you select, pick the keyword that’s the most relevant to your blog post. This will be your primary keyword, and the other keywords you’ve picked will be your secondary keywords.
- Write your blog post and include the keywords – Use the primary keyword you’ve selected in the title of your blog post and one or two times within your blog post. Use the secondary keywords you’ve selected once each in the post (or more if it’s relevant).
