Why Adsense, Panda & Penguin Are Kind to Mashable, TechCrunch & TheNextWeb But Harsh to Me?

Written By
Let me begin this article by confessing that I am no experienced blogger. Nor am I an SEO expert. Infact, I have a lot to learn.
Then you must be wondering why I am writing this in the first place?

How To SEO, On Page SEO, Off Page SEO

What got me to writing this was a discussion among a few of my newbie blogger friends in one of the bogging communities about the recent Adsense bans on many of them. I was amused when I heard one of them say that Google wants to promote its own websites (!!!!) which is why it is looking for such ‘excuses’ to ‘pull down’ other websites.
Pathetically, some others in the group happened to agree with this ‘wise’ observer.
Since it couldn’t have got any sillier than this, I thought of sharing a few “How to seo” tips and tricks followed by some authority sites.
For all of us and the newbies who want to improve their on page seo and off page seo techniques, it is very important to see how these internet rulers have reached thus far.

Why ME?

Coming down strongly upon those who indulged in unfair and pernicious practices to get to the top of search engine rankings and thus pocket thousands of $$$ every month from Adsense, the Google web spam team headed by Matt Cutts has made it clear that webmasters will have to change their seo techniques if they indeed want to stay at the top.
While Google has made it clear on numerous occasions that it will rank the websites on the basis of their content, most webmasters find it difficult to accept this harsh reality. Many of them are still working harder on their on page and off page SEO than they do on the information they pass on their readers. And then repent when they are slapped by Panda and Penguin. Which is sad.
They are unable to make out how to protect their websites from Google Panda & Google Penguin attacks when the fact is that they have no one to blame but themselves for the mess they land themselves in.
If you want to avoid being hit by all these algorithms, you need to start thinking afresh and work upon your SEO techniques. It would be best to follow the man himself, Matt Cutts. He comes out with videos across the YouTube regularly. And I am sure those who follow his advice religiously will never have to worry over these innocent animals (Pandas & Penguins) attacking them anymore!
Which also brings us to our main question- why doesn’t Google Adsense ban Mashable & TechCrunch and why don’t Panda & Penguin attacks hit them?
Here is what you need to know about their off page and on page seo.

Why Not Mashable, TechCrunch & TheNextWeb?

What is it that these websites mentioned above have that you and I don’t?
  • Unique Content

Google always wants bloggers and website owners to provide fresh and unique content to their audience.
All those who follow these websites regularly must have noticed that Mashable, etc. always come up with exclusive and unique content. They are amongst the trendsetters over the internet.
Many small time bloggers (me included) often look upto them for inspiration. That is because they come up with news and information which has not been covered elsewhere.
  • Huge Subscriber Base

These websites have hundreds of thousands of subscribers who are looking forward to getting latest updates from them.
I have seen so many of Mashable posts getting thousands of social shares within 2-3 hours of being published. Regular readers thus help bring in lots of referral traffic, many of which subscribe to updates from the categories which interest them later, thus strengthening their base by leaps and bounds with every passing day.
Google, which attaches a lot of importance to social sharing, is more likely to ignore any minor violation from such websites (if at all) since they are brand names unto themselves!
  • No Unsound How to SEO Techniques

With huge subscriber bases, authority sites like these do not need not resort to any unhealthy off page SEO techniques to get to the top of search engine rankings.
Infact, each of their articles is read by thousands of people everyday even if they do not get to the top because of the huge number of subscribers they have!
Their content, if you have noticed, is not written with any keywords in mind, does not have too many bolds, italics, h1 and h2 tags in a desperate attempt to get noticed by Google crawlers.
As for backlinks, they earn lots of them without having to resort to any seo at all!
  • Regular Updating

On an average an authority site the ones I have mentioned here puts up 15- 20 new articles every day. They are able to do because they have their own teams of highly motivated and dedicated people who cover the latest trends and news. And need I add, it always helps add to their brand value!
I have seen Google News & trends refer to their content just because they are quick to cover up the latest news and happenings. Someone who does that does deserve to be on the top!
  • On Page And Off Page SEO

Do the right on page seo.
If you do that, and optimize your url, title and meta description, you will have every reason to get to the top of search engine rankings if you have something new to offer to your readers. You will not need to put in much effort on your off page seo.
I would like to add the importance of a little keyword research here. Low competition keywords with proper on page seo can help you get to the top of SERP rankings in no time at all, with little or no off page seo.

Conclusion

All those who accuse Google of being unfair or biased against small time bloggers and website owners need to have a closer look at the working models of some authority sites like these, and get a hint or tow form them to know why it is kind to Mashable, TheNextWeb and TechCrunch but harsh on you!
The internet giant has been urging website owners and bloggers to give up unwholesome and rotten how to SEO techniques and shift their focus to providing quality content.
Unless you do that, there is no getting away with Panda attacks and Penguin updates and Adsense bans!
I would appreciate feedback from my readers on the topic. Please do write back if you agree. Even if you don’t, do share your views!
