How to Create an Infographic Using Powerpoint?

Written By

Infographics are a huge hits with bloggers these days.
And not just with bloggers- everyone seems to me making use of this cool way of presenting boring information in a manner that is more appealing to the eye and is, therefore, likely to get a better response.
Everyone one out there loves Infographics. They make the data a lot more easy to understand too.
I had seen many fellow bloggers making use of infographics during the last few months, and was keen to do so myself. The problem was getting started. :D
I am not too tech savvy and was looking for an easy way out to do the same. Besides that, I did not want to spend on buying expensive softwares. With those two major limitations behind me, I wondered whether I would be able to manage an infographic at all?

Creating an Infographic Using PowerPoint

Here is your step by step tutorial to create an infographic using PowerPoint:

Step 1: Open PowerPoint, Let’s Start

Open your MS PowerPoint, and get ready with a head shot.
It may include the image of the creator, your company logo, or any other image that will represent the subject your infographic is all about.

Step 2: Choose Basic Layout of Slides

Select the format background by right clicking on your slide, then change the “Fill”.
With this one, you can easily change the background color for your infographic according to your infographic subject.
Choose a color that will suit best with your logo, and other details.

Step 3: Build it up

After you have selected your color scheme, you may start building your own infographic.
It is time to show some creativity now. PowerPoint has a variety of tools that will help you to make your infographic eye catchy:
  • Images: You may use your own custom images to use in the infographic.
You may even enhance the images by changing the color under “Effects” option. You will also find a “Transparent Color” tool which will permit you to make the background of your image transparent so that it can be well integrated with the infographic.
You may even choose a image outline if you want.

  • Shapes:To create a more powerful design, you will need to insert various shapes in your infographic.
Every shape you choose comes with various options to help you customize your design in the best possible manner.
You can use green bubble on any shape to rotate it.
Simply click on the shapes you insert, and play with them till they fit in perfectly.
  •  SmartArt: The predefined SmartArt designs will help you to produce your story more boldly by using wise visuals.
You may double click the various shapes to choose the best colors to match with your color scheme.
  •  Charts: A chart will always help you to produce the data details more effectively, and edit your growth more efficiently.
You may use line charts, pie charts, bar charts, and change their colors to match your pattern.
Under “Format Chart Area” option, you will be able to further customize the feel of your charts.

Step 4: Add Call-to-Action

Adding a small call-to-action at the bottom will help the users find a path to travel if they wish to know more regarding the subject.
You may add a link to your, or someone’s else blog which is related to the subject you’ve tried to explain.

Step 5: Insert your Logo

Just take the credit for the time, and efforts you’ve spent to create your masterpiece.
Let the audience know who designed it by adding your logo on bottom right corner of your infographic.

Step 6: Piecing your Infographic Together

Once you’ve made all the slides, save them as images in PNG format.
PNG format is necessary so that slides are saved as high quality image files.
Now go to some online free tool like PIXLR and upload your slides.
Adjust the zoom to 20%, and select ‘Canvas Size’ under Image option. This will be large enough for you to paste all your slides.
Now you may copy and paste all other slides, and place them together.
Position them as per their number, and adjust them accordingly.
Finally save them as PNG format again to ensure the quality and your infographic is ready.
You may now use it for multiple purposes as you wish to.
